Our grandparents probably remember the good old days when they could check in their
bags for free wherever they flew. However, now every air carrier levies charges
on bags and that's why checking luggage restrictions before you travel has become
all the more necessary.
Fortunately, airlines do allow certain hand luggage for free but if you're one
of those who can't resist packing two huge suitcases for a weekend trip, now
might be the time to start thinking about taking out some items. Unnecessary packing
is not only going to cost you extra dollars but it will also make it inconvenient
for you to carry your luggage around.
If you are flying, the first thing to do is to find out what luggage restrictions
are? Many airlines often have their own. While British Airways has stated clearly
on their website that a passenger cannot take a bag bigger that 56cm × 45cm
× 25cm without paying the luggage charges, USA Airways charges @$25
for first bag, $35 for second and $100 for every additional luggage. Passengers
are required to pay for their 1st and 2nd checked bags when they check in online
or at the airport. All bag fees are per person, each way and are non-refundable.
Some airlines may not have stricter a weight restriction for hand baggage, but precaution
must be exercised while packing that as well. Liquid and gel toiletries are allowed
only if packed in 3-ounce or smaller clear plastic containers, quart-size or small
zip lock bag. Larger containers, rolled-up toothpaste tubes are strictly not allowed.
Saline solution, eye drops, prescribed and non prescribed medicine and personal
lubricants are allowed.
