Although nearly 100 years have passed since the first Labor Day observance, the
argument "Who first proposed the holiday?" still goes on. Come September
and the topic will become hot again to be discussed at meetings, parties, and casual

Savannah - Georgia
What could be the best way to spend the Labor Day weekend? The Sweet Savannah is
so full of southern spirit and free romance. The city's architecture and history
are widely known as its farms and costal gardens. Nick named as "Hostess City
of the South," Savannah is so beautiful that it attracts millions of visitors
from all over.
Things to do include walking on the River Street to shop from the delightful shops,

Labor Day Capitol Concert - Washington
Everyone knows that the capital city is located on banks of Potomac River, bordered
by Virginia and Maryland and sees action almost all throughout the year. What people
don't know about are the cultural events that take place here almost every week,
giving a chance to thousands to showcase their talent.
The Concert is the best know Labor Day tradition in DC. If you have never attended
it, make sure you do it this year. National Symphony Orchestra is a regular at this
concert. If the weather holds up West Lawn of the US Capitol Building will host
it. In case of bad weather, the concert is organized indoors at the Kennedy Center

and is free for everyone. However, reach early if you don't want to be bothered
with hopeless traffic and parking.

New York City, the destination of immigrants from all over, is a densely inhabited
city in the United States. Known for its high-rise buildings, fashion, culture,
and chic community, it is the city where dreams are made. The Big Apple is hosting
two major Labor Day functions among many others:
Summer HD Festival
Opening from August 29th, The Metropolitan Opera will stage ten of its productions
from Peabody and Emmy Award-winning Live in HD Series. The screenings are free to
public and will be held in Lincoln Center Plaza. To get a good seat, reach early.

New York Freedom
Trail tour
For the history buffs, The Freedom Trail tour will be available on Saturday, September
4th from 10:30 am - 12:20 pm. Taken out from Lower Manhattan this ranger-guided
tour will include visits to historic sites in Manhattan including Bowling Green
area, Federal Hall, and St. Paul's Chapel. The tour costs $12.00 per person

Shawano, Wisconsin
The Shawano County Fair will be the biggest event over the Labor Day weekend in
Shawano. The fair will be inaugurated on August 29th and will go on till September
3rd. Some of the activities that will take place include stock care races, county
farm tractor pull, pig wrestling, a demolition derby, The Chicago Honey Bear Dancers,
Mike and Brian Show, and Center Stage Variety Show Band. The music scene will be
handled by Chad Przbylski, Arly Bork Band, Mark Jirkovec Orchestra, Mr. Slate Band,
KNX Pary Band, and the Polka Rhythms. On Sunday, Polka Mass will be conducted at
11:00 am by Jerry Voelker and Father Hafeman.
Northeastern Minnesota
The state of olden rocks on earth, Minnesota is holding its Labor Day Celebrations
through a series of weekend festivals and events. 41st Annual Wild Rice Days will
be organized on September 2nd and 3rd. The Lions Club has its 40th Annual Corn Feed
at the McGregor Community Center on 5th September, Sunday. Other events include
parade, car show, live music, children's competition, and arts and craft show.

Charleston, SC
The historic city of South Carolina, Charleston is going to begin the festivities
of the weekend early with an evening of spectacular music and twist dancing at the
beach. Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission will host Moonlight Mixers
"Shaggin' on the Pier" on Friday September 3rd at 7:00 p.m. The Shag,
state dance of South Carolina, is fairly easy to learn and fun to watch. Buy tickets
in advance. Residents get them at $8 and visitors are charged $10, log on

Labor Day Parade, Detroit
Built on the banks of River Detroit, the Motor City is the home to automobile unions.
The city is organizing a biggest Labor Day parade of Michigan. The daylong event
is expected to draw crowd from nearby areas as well. There will also be a three-day
Detroit Jazz Fest during the weekend. Both the events are open free to public.
