After a hectic schedule, there's nothing more rejuvenating than taking a trip
across the road, see the country and be in touch with the mighty nature. If you
live near Los Angeles and wish to go to San Francisco, here are some of the best
routes to follow.
Hire a car from your
trusted source and begin the road trip from the intersection of Interstate 10 and
Interstate 405. The trip usually ends at Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco but
if you want to go further, the choice is all yours.
Route 1 : Start from Los Angeles during the early hours so that
you can avoid the evening rush hour at San Francisco. Total distance is around 430
miles and it runs through US 101, following the coast part way. Keep a road guide
handy to know what all you can see on your way.
Route 2 : This one's slightly tough to drive due to two-lane
roads and high-speed winds. Journey time is 10 hours and it is only a mile lengthier
than the previous one. If you are on an once-in-a-lifetime trip, don't miss
out the opportunity to see Big Sur coast. There are very few places to stop but
the landscape is awesome. Sleep before time the day before and start early.
Route 3 : For those who have been to San Francisco often and want
to reach there as early as possible, this is the shortest route. It takes 6 hours
and the total distance is approximately 380 miles.
Route 4 : The most picturesque route, it is too long to be done
in a single day. While starting, take the Interstate 405 north to California 14
which connects to US 395 north and follow it through the eastern side of Sierras
and Mono Lake. Allow two complete days.
