Thanksgiving Parades to Watch this Year - II

Chicago, Illinois
Giving a tough competition to the New York's Thanksgiving Parade is Chicago's own turkey day spectacular event which has been running since the last seven decades. The parade features over 125 participating units, including floats, marching bands, horses, elephants, circus performers, drill teams, costume dancers, fire players, cartoon characters and many more. Watched by over 4 million people from the streets, the parade is also broadcast on the national television live from the ground.


Houston, Texas
The Thanksgiving Day Parade of Houston (H-E-B in short) is now a 62-year-old tradition showcasing the beautiful and vibrant culture of Houston to more than 500,000 parade-goers. It begins at 9 a.m. sharp and marches around downtown with cheerleaders, marching bands and decorated floats.


Detroit, Michigan
Fondly known as America's Thanksgiving Parade, it is one of the country's oldest and most celebrated Thanksgiving Parades. It begins at 9:20 a.m. from the Woodward Avenue and Mack and terminates at the Woodward Avenue and Congress in downtown Detroit. Thousands of parade-goers begin filling the stalls by 6:00 am to watch as it makes its way through the city and enlivens the downtown with a wonder demonstration of sights and sounds. Colorful displays of art and talent, decorated floats, giant helium balloons, paper-mache artifacts (also known as the "Big Heads"), clowns, costume depicting world cultures, funny animals, and even some legends. The Detroit's city administration also lets people to sign up for the pre-parade road racing and stroll through the entire parade route.


Although these parades are covered through the country's extensive cable network, watching them live is an experience in itself.
