Paul Theroux, the great American travel writer, once said, "Tourists don't
know where they've been, travelers don't know where they're going."
While most of the tourists like to take the fastest option to reach their destination;
travelers move at a slightly slower pace giving them the freedom to explore places
they see.
The U.S. called as the land of the car - a remarkable place for
car hire services, but it also one of the greatest countries in the world
to be explored by passenger train.
Since decades, people in the U.S. have not preferred rail travel as their primary
means of transportation. However, the trends are now changing. With the ever increasing
nuisance of flight delays and higher cost of gasoline, train travel is beginning
to gain momentum, thereby giving passengers a wider view of the country they live
in and converting them into travelers from the hurried tourists.
Over the last few years, the Federal Government has also made amendments in its
policies to promote traveling by trains. Some of these changes that have been initiated
in 2010 include:
$8 billion
dollars have been allocated under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of
2009 to manufacture, maintain and promote high-speed intercity passenger rail systems.
Additional $90
million to be taken out from the existing state grant programs to fuel the current
network of trains in the entire country.
According to the President of the United Rail Passenger Alliance, "With every
step that is taken to make the current traveling by train a better experience, the
country will improve its overall ratio of travelers".
One of the direct implications of such improvements has been on Amtrak that has
now started including business class travel in all its trains, allowing delegates
to conduct their conferences while on the move, in addition to the host of other
benefits.
Traveling by a Train in USA is really good; whereas driving is funny, if you are
