Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is located at the distance of 10 miles (16 km) from Baltimore. Roughly about 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Washington, it is the focus city for Southwest Airlines. Nearly 21 million passengers made up the traffic at BWI in 2009, making it the 25th busiest airport in America. The airport was also ranked as the best airport of its size in 2010, a comparison done by Airports Council International.

Ground Transportation

The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is one of the easiest airports to get to.

Rail

The station for the Light rail train is located nearly a mile from the main airport terminal. The airport authority provides a free shuttle bus service connecting all the terminals to the train station. If commuting by the Penn Station, the travel time to the airport is approximately ten minutes. The train runs every hour, all the days in the week.

Bus

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) runs metro bus that connects BWI and the Greenbelt station of the Washington Metro via route B30. There's a bus every 40 minutes from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm weekdays and 9:00 am till 10:00 pm on weekends.

Car Rental

The Baltimore car rental centre is located at the end of baggage claim area, right next to the exit section. If you are arriving in the city, follow the car rental signboards after collecting you baggage. The departing passengers are required to return the vehicle to the car rental center. • Take MD-295 S/Russell St or Interstate-95 South
• Take Interstate-195 E toward BWI Airport
• Slight right (look out for signs for Hourly Parking/Arriving Flights)

From Annapolis

• Take on Interstate-97 N for 14.2 mile
• Exit toward Ellicott City/Gibson Island, take 14A-B for MD-100 E
• On the left take exit 14B to merge onto MD-100 W toward Ellicott City
• Take exit 11 to merge onto Telegraph Rd toward Linthicum and follow MD-170 N
• Exit toward Hourly Parking/BWI Airport Terminal

From Washington D.C. and South vicinities

• Entering Maryland by turning right at New York Ave. NW/US-50 E.
• Drive along the road to take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway exit on the left.
• Merge onto MD-295 North
• Take the exit onto Interstate-195 East toward BWI Airport
• Slight right (look out for signs for Hourly Parking/Arriving Flights)
