to the need of customers. Hire a car to enjoy your favourite attractions
in Flagstaff.
Here's a quick rundown of the places that are worth visiting and few activities
you'd love to spend time on:
- Highway 89A - Red Rock Canyon Road
This off-the-beat highway offers great views and plenty of cabins and campgrounds
around it to spend some time in the wild. Going through this region gives a unique
feel of 1950's - no chain restaurants, or motels' - just good
people liking you to stop by. Drive along the Oak Creek Vista, south of Flagstaff
and maneuver switchbacks to get into beautiful valley and all the way to Sedona.
Sedona is a quiet town surrounded by mountains and a place to see handwork of local
artists. You can either head back from there or continue exploring the road.
- Flagstaff Haunted Places
Take a self guide tour through the by lanes of the city. Like every town, Flagstaff
has its own share of ghost stories and hunted mansions. There are seven to eight
reportedly haunted sites in downtown Flagstaff that are sure to give you few sleepless
nights after you visit them.
- Coconino National Forest
This forested area is a nice trip to enjoy with friends or family. The park starts
about 6 miles south of Flagstaff. It has distinct landscapes, including deserts,
pine forests, mesas, flatlands, and dried-out volcanic peaks. The
forest surrounds the neighboring towns of Sedona and Flagstaff and shares borders
with four other national forests including the Prescott National Forest to the southwest,
the Kaibab National Forest to the west and northwest, the Apache-Sitgreaves
National Forest to the southeast, and the Tonto National Forest to the south.
You'll also find a number of camping sites and cabins to stay in the forested
area.
- Grand Falls
Known to many as "Chocolate Falls" because of its muddy color, Grand
Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in United States. The falls do not have much
water until spring but many like to see it whenever they are around.
- Mountain biking, Rock Climbing, and Hiking
Flagstaff is a hotspot for outdoor recreation activities. Start from Mount Elden
and take your time to explore numerous trails running up and alongside the mountain.
For guaranteed fun, take the Elden Lookout Trail - the most famous of all.
It scales to 2800 feet from base to summit, and you can access the lookout tower
at the top which looks down on the entire city for amazing views.
- Lowell Observatory
Whether you are romantic or not, the bright stars and lovely moonlight at the
Lowell Observatory will surely give your stomach little oomph. Incidentally,
this is also the research centre from where Pluto was discovered. There is Observatory's
24" Clark telescope for visitors to use and see the sky beyond clouds. The observatory
opens regularly from 9:00 - 5:00 pm. For evening programs, please
inquire in advance. Website: www.lowell.edu
- The Museum of Northern Arizona
Features the biology, anthropology, geology, and Fine Arts pieces of
the Colorado Plateau region. Through various exhibits, research, educational
programs, quiz shows, and outdoor excursions, visitors can discover
the grand history of the place and learn facts about the county. The museum opens
9:00 am till 5:00 pm all days except Sundays and public holidays.
