you'd love to spend time on:
- Sunset
Kailua-Kona's sunsets are incredible, so don't miss them for any
day while your stay here. Be prepared to be awed at the nature's phenomenon
as you watch the sun set.
- Hulihe'e Palace
Guarded by strong wrought iron gate adorned with the royal crest, Hulihe'e
Palace was once the preferred vacation residence of Hawaiian royalty. It is one
of only three royal palaces to be still in inhabitable condition in America. The
palace was built of coral, lava, koa wood, and ohia timbers and is a
great showplace of beautiful furniture and fascinating work of art. The palace is
located on Ali'i Drive, a trendy shopping and dining destination for tourists.
- Sportfishing and whale-watching
Kailua-Kona is the sportfishing capital of the world and doing that while you
are here be an excellent fun activity to do with family.
- Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Take a break from physical activity to go for a long drive in Volcanoes National
Park. Kailua-Kona has some of the world-s spectacular live volcanoes and
if you want to get close and personal, take a helicopter to get great views.
Just few minutes from the park entrance is Halemaumau crater, the center of
Kilauea and emitter of enormous amounts of volcanic gas, lava, and steam.
This gas forms a cloud that can travel as far as Oahu. Website:

- Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park
Established in 1978 for the protection and preservation of traditional native Hawaiian
activities and culture, the park is located on the coast between Kailua Town
and Kona airport. It has coastal regions, a house site, couple of large
fishponds, and other archeological remnants. The park is open to public from
8:00 am - 5:00 daily and though it offers activities like hiking,
fishing, scuba diving, swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking, no
overnight camping within the park is allowed after dark. Website:
www.nps.gov/kaho.
- Mauna Kea Observatory
An amazing place to watch the skies, Mauna Kea has great telescopes and definitely
worth the drive. The road is hilly and dirty at some parts but with careful driving,
is easy to maneuver. Website: www.ifa.hawaii.edu/mko.
