Located at the southern eastern Nashville, the BNA is a joint civil-military airport. The IATA Airport Code BNA is derived from one of the Nashville's early aviation facilities-Berry Field, Nashville. The airport was called Berry Field till 1988. After that its name was changed to reflect plans for international flights.

The airport is served by four runways and nearly 11 million passengers passed through its gates in 2008. The Nashville International Airport contributes $3.80 billion in America's economic activity and $1.20 billion in wages, in addition to 39,800 jobs in an year to the regional economy.
