Situated about 13 miles from Lower Manhattan, JFK international airport is the
busiest international gateway for passengers in US. It is also the principal freight
gateway to the country by value of shipments that pass through it in a year.
JFK has eight working terminals and hosts incoming and outgoing flights from and
to all corners of the world, which are run by over eighty five airlines. For
moving in and out of the airport, there are free shuttle services available.
Passengers can also use shuttle services to move from one terminal to another.
Ground transportation
Rail
AirTrain JFK connects the New York's subway to the JFK Airport subway station.
It stops at all the eight terminals, car rental lots, parking lots,
hotel shuttle areas, 2 subway stations, and the Long Island Rail Road. It
doesn't charges passengers for commuting within the airport. Usually, a
passenger can reach JFK and from the Midtown Manhattan in approximately 35 minutes.
Bus
There are several city bus lines that link JFK International Airport to the New
York City Subway, including the Q3, Q7, Q10 (sometimes limited),
and B15. Free transfers are provided for all the subway connections. These buses
are comfortable to use and can be accessed by handicaps with ease.
Taxi
The famous New York City's yellow cabs run from Manhattan to JFK at a flat rate
of $45, excluding tolls. Depending on the hour of the day you are travelling,
taxis usually take 35 minutes to reach from JFK to Midtown Manhattan.
Car Rental
The JFK Airport is by far the easiest airport to be reached by car. Its location
at southern Queens on the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678) makes it comfortably
accessed from the Belt Parkway, Queens Boulevard, and the Grand Central
Parkway. There is also a ring road that connects New York airport terminals to the
Van Wyck Expressway and the Belt Parkway. There are over 17,000 parking spaces
to take from in the airport parking lot, including the lavish valet parking.
All the major rental car companies serve JFK Airport, with their rental locations
placed on and off the airport. Every terminal's arrival level has either a car
rental counter or courtesy telephone to get connected with the car rental companies.
