Public Transport
Indy Go (www.indygo.net) runs the public
bus transportation system of Indianapolis. Single ride costs $1.75 and its buses
travel throughout the city and neighboring suburbs. Day passes are available for
$4. Though the bus system is a cheap way to travel, frequency is an issue
after rush hours and the average wait is 30+ minutes.
Indy Go's has a very useful route (#17) which covers all the city's
popular locations, pubs and restaurants. Other popular routes are #8 Washington
St, #18 Nora, and #38 Lafayette Square. Bus service is available
from Monday - Friday, 5:00 am - 9:30 am, Saturday 6:00
am - 9:30 am, and Sunday from 7:00 am - 9:00 pm.
Biking
There are a variety of bike paths throughout in the city. People like to pedal around
as the terrain is flat. Monon Trail and the Central Canal are two of the most popular
bike terrains. Get your own gear or hire some from the shops around. Biking here
will prove to be fun.

Getting around in Indianapolis
Taxi
If you don't like driving and wouldn't want to hire a car, then commuting
through taxis is more comfortable. Taxis can't be hailed from streets so please
make sure to book them in advance.
They provide taxi services 24 hours a day.
Car Hire
The only good way to commute within Indianapolis is to drive. The usual speed limit
on highways is 50-70 mph. If there is no posted speed, assume that it is
30 mph. Take help of maps to plan routes off of the main highways and see the country
to get the true feel of the city.
Indianapolis Car Hire is definitely worth "going in" for as it will
give you the freedom to see the city at your own pace. Usually a person between
the age brackets of 18 to 75 years with a valid license is allowed to drive a private,
non-commercial vehicle in the city. The speed limit is 55 mph (90 kph)
on highways and 30 mph (50 kph) on urban roads. Like any other US city,
front-seat passengers are required by law to wear seatbelts and children under
4 or must ride in child-safety seats.
If you like to drive, don't forget to carry your driver's license. For
foreigners, International Driving Permit is compulsory. Depending on the way
you're travelling, there are many types of Indianapolis car rental services that can
make it convenient for you to move comfortably between hotels, places of interest,
restaurants and airports. Pick from economy vehicles to go for a trip around the
city to full size vehicles for longer inter-city excursions - all at best
prices.
