Getting around in Las Vegas
By Bus
- City and suburban bus routes are taken care by Citizens Area Transit 702-228-7433,
800-228-3911, www.catride.com.
- Their services commence from 5 in the morning and run till 2am next day.
- Sitting in a double-decker Deuce buses is always a pleasure. These run 24/7
along the Strip and to the downtown. Fare: $1.25 per ride on double-decker,
$2 on Deuce buses. Carry change to avoid glares.
- Timetables with maps, free transfers, and 24-hour passes ($5)
can be taken from drivers or at the Downtown Transportation Center between 7:00
am-5:30 pm.
- The low-cost Megabus offers daily express buses between Union Station (downtown
Los Angeles) and Las Vegas. One-way fares range from $1 to $35,
depending where you want to get down and on how much in advance you book your seats.

- Third option is the Greyhound bus service (702-384-9561). Regular
buses move from their station at downtown to and from Los Angeles, San Diego
and San Francisco.
By Monorail
- Its fast, fun and wheelchair friendly. Monorail (www.lvmonorail.com,
702-699-8299) runs from the Sahara to the MGM Grand and takes halts
at few major Strip megaresorts along its way. Operates from 7:00 am - 2:00
am, Monday to Thursday and until 3:00 am, Friday to Sunday.
- Fare for a single side ride is $5 and a 24-hour pass can be made for $15.
Hiring a Car
- Destination Las Vegas is made to be discovered by road-trip. If you stay wary
of the traffic during peak hours, driving here is fun.
- Tuning into KNUU 'K-News' (970AM) will keep you updated about
the traffic and weather of the city.
- If you are driving on a particularly warm day make sure that the air-con is
working right. The last thing you would want in the desert is an overheated vehicle.
- I-15 and US Hwy 95 are the main roads into and out of Vegas. Other than these,
US Hwy 93 goes southeast, from downtown to Hoover Dam and I-215 goes alongside
McCarran Airport.
- Weekday traffic hours and weekend nights often see traffic from freeway crawling
along the streets of Vegas, especially near the Strip.
- When vehicles are very tightly packed on roads, remain close to the surface
routes, such as Paradise Rd, Frank Sinatra Dr and Industrial Rd which is
in west of the Strip. Desert Inn Rd super-arterial is the best and fastest way
to get across the Strip.
