Bus
For visitors planning on staying around town and have come with the preference of
laying around the beaches for sunbath, shop at the local centers, and tour
the island for the usual sightseeing, commuting through bus is probably the
most economical way to go.
Whalers Village Shuttle offers free rides and runs along the Kaanapali strip every
half hour from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., halting at the golf course,
all major resorts, and the Whaler's Village shopping complex.
Lahaina Express shuttle connects Lahaina to Kaannapali and runs from 9:00 a.m.
to 10:00 p.m. It also doesn't charge visitors for travelling in it. Wailea
Shuttle halts at all major condos and hotels, the Wailea Shopping Village,
and tennis and golf courts in Wailea about every 30 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to
8:30 p.m.
Taxi
Maui has around two dozen taxi operators offering taxi, tours, and shuttle
service. It is an expensive mode of commuting locally and must be considered if
there isn't any other option. The fares are metered by distance traveled. A
ride from Kahului to Kaanapali is $60, and fare to Kapalua from the Kahului
Airport is $70. Limousine services are available at $120 for the shortest
distance. There are some classy taxi operators that offer rides in renovated old
cars from the 1930s and 1940s.
