Getting around in Philadelphia
On Foot
As America's one of the most walkable cities, Philadelphia is marked extremely
well by "Walk!" signs on each block and guide visitors toward dining,
shopping, gallery perusing, entertainment, enjoyment, local attractions
and public transportation.
Using the Subway
The city has two separate subway lines (Broad Street or Orange Line and Market-Frankford
or Blue Line) that serve Center City Philadelphia and connect it to the smaller
neighborhoods. One way fare is $2, senior citizens ride free.
By Trolley
Operated by SEPTA, there are 8 trolleys that run on different routes. If you
are travelling in a larger group, you can even opt for a memorable tour by Victorian
trolley, which lets you board and re-board any number of times throughout the
day. The trolleys are also routed to take you to specialized tours focusing on African-American
culture, mural art, and Philadelphia architecture. Website:

Taxi
Regulated by the Philadelphia Parking Authority, all taxis are metered. Rates
begin from $2.70 at flagfall and $2.35 per mile.
Car Hire
Philadelphia
Car Hire is by far the best way to get around the city. With the exception
of downtown parking is abundant and easy to find. Driving gives you the freedom
to see the city at your own pace. Usually a person between the age brackets of 18
to 75 years with a valid license is allowed to drive a private, non-commercial
vehicle in the city. If you like to drive, don't forget to carry your driver's
license. For foreigners, International Driving Permit is compulsory.
Depending on the way you're travelling, there are many types of Philadelphia car rental services that can
make it convenient for you to move comfortably between hotels, places of interest,
restaurants and airports. Pick from economy vehicles to go for a trip around the
city to full size vehicles for longer inter-city excursions - all at best
prices.
