Getting around in Pittsburgh
Taxi
Available 24 hours a day in the Greater Pittsburgh area. However, the taxis
usually do not respond to being hailed from the streets. It is always better to
call to arrange for a pickup. Yellow Cab (412-665-8100) and People's
Cab (412-681-3131) run the biggest taxi network here.
Zipcar
An economical way of traveling, the Zipcar lets you share rides from the downtown
with other visitors and residents. Mostly available in the downtown and Oakland
neighborhood area, you can create a ZipCar account and share access to any of
its fifty vehicles. The Zipcar can be booked by reserving a car online and returning
to the car's designated parking space as soon as you're done, everything
for one hourly rate that graciously covers gas charges, premium insurance and
150 free miles.
Car Hire
Car Hire in Pittsburgh
is definitely worth "going in" for as it will give you the freedom to see
the city at your own pace. Usually a person between the age brackets of 18 to 75
years with a valid license is allowed to drive a private, non-commercial
vehicle in the city. If you like to drive, don't forget to carry your driver's
license. For foreigners, International Driving Permit is compulsory.
Depending on the way you're travelling, there are many types of Pittsburgh car rental services that can make
it convenient for you to move comfortably between hotels, places of interest,
restaurants and airports. Pick from economy vehicles to go for a trip around the
Pittsburgh city to full size vehicles for longer inter-city excursions -
all at best prices.
