Getting around in San Diego
Taxi
Taxis are expensive but can be easily hailed from streets. Must be considered only
if you are towing luggage or travelling several miles at a stretch.
Trolley (light rail)
Known for its reliable timings and convenience, The San Diego Trolley (www.sdmts.com/trolley/trolley.asp)
is the "moving landmark" of the city and a fun filled way to explore this
wonderful place. The trolley or light rail system is operated by Metropolitan Transit
System (MTS) and serves locals living in the eastern and southern parts
of the city.
The Trolley runs on three different lines - green, blue and orange. The
Green Line operates from Old Town east to Santee, via SDSU and Mission Valley.
The Blue Line runs from US-Mexico border at San Ysidro and runs to Old Town,
via National City, Chula Vista, and Downtown. Orange line connects passengers
of the eastern cities of La Mesa and El Cajon with Downtown. Trolley services are
available from 5:00 am - 12:00 am every day with the frequency of 15
minutes.
Walk or Ride a bike
You'd love to walk or rent a bike at San Diego. Climate offers excellent opportunity
for the fitness freaks and you can actually spend your holidays riding bikes to
shed off those extra pounds while having fun at the same time. However, don't
leave your bike unattended anywhere without the lock.
Car Hire
Definitely worth "going in" for as it will give you the independence to
see the city at your own pace. Generally, a person between the age brackets
of 18 to 75 years with a valid license is allowed to drive a private, non-commercial
vehicle in the city. If you like to drive, don't forget to carry your driver's
license. For foreigners International Driving Permit is compulsory.
